Black forest cake is a popular and delicious cake. This sweet item is very attractive with some layers of chocolate assembled with cream. Black forest cake is one of the Christmas special cake.

The exact name of this German dessert is Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte aka black forest cherry torte. There are different names for this recipe in different countries of the world. In India it is popular as black forest pastry, U.S as black forest and in U.K as black forest gateau.

By serving this special cake during parties and festivals makes the function wonderful and can surprise the guests. The preparation for this cake is little time consuming but it is very rich in taste.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour (maida) - 1 & 1/2 cup
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder - 3/4 cup
  • Baking powder - 1 tsp
  • Baking soda - 1 tsp
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Eggs - 3 nos
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Cooking oil - 3/4 cup
  • Heavy whipping cream - 1 cup
  • Icing sugar - 1 cup
  • Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
  • Dark chocolate bar - 1 nos
  • Mixed fruit jam - 1/4 cup
  • Water - 3/4 cup ( to make sugar syrup )
  • Powdered sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Vanilla essence - 1/3 tsp

Method

Step 1

Mix all purpose flour with cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda in a bowl. Keep aside.

Step 2

Now take the sugar into a separate bowl and break 3 eggs.

Step 3

Add milk and oil into eggs and sugar mixture then mix well until sugar dissolves.

Step 4

Then add all purpose flour mixture into this bowl. Mix well. Now the cake batter is ready.

Step 5

Pour the chocolate cake batter into greased baking tray.

Step 6

Bake at 375 degree fahrenheit for 35 to 40 minutes.

Step 7

After the cake is baked, remove from oven.

Step 8

Take heavy whipping cream into a mixing bowl and add powdered sugar, vanilla essence and beat using hand mixer until cream thickens up. Keep it aside.

Step 9

Preparation of sugar syrup: Take a bowl and boil water then add powdered sugar and vanilla essence till the sugar dissolves completely. Allow it to cool.

Step 10

Then take chocolate bar and either grate it or peel it using potato peeler. After the chocolate cake cools down, divide the cake into 3 equal layers. Apply the sugar syrup on all the chocolate layers.

Step 11

Now spread the whipped cream above all the 3 layers of the cake by taking one by one layer.

Step 12

Then apply the whipped cream all over the cake.

Step 13

Add the grated chocolate on the top and sides of chocolate cake.

Step 14

Garnish the cake with mixed fruit jam. Now the Black forest cake is ready to serve.
