Fish Vindaloo Recipe

Fish Vindaloo is very popular spicy, sweet & tangy Anglo-Indian dish with its name derived from Portuguese. The authentic taste of vindaloo comes from a unique blend of garlic, vinegar, and kashmiri chilly. Fish pieces cooked in ginger garlic pastes, tomato, cumin and other ingredients.

Fish is a high-protein, low-fat food that provides a range of health benefits. White-fleshed fish, in particular, is lower in fat than any other source of animal protein, and oily fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, or the “good” fats. Since the human body can’t make significant amounts of these essential nutrients, fish are an important part of the diet.

Eating fish regularly can be very beneficial for your health, and it can help reduce risk for some diseases, particularly those related to the heart. For adults, at least two servings of fish per week are recommended. It is loaded with important nutrients, such as protein and vitamin D. Fish with high levels of fatty acids, such as salmon or tuna, could be very beneficial for a proper brain tissue development, especially in children.

Ingredients

  • King Fish / Neymeen - 6 pieces ( boneless )
  • Garlic - 6 cloves
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder - 3 tsp
  • Onion - 1 no ( sliced )
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium ( chopped )
  • Vinegar - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Coconut oil - 5 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean the fish with water and cut them into medium pieces.

Step 2

Using a mixer grinder, grind kashmiri red chilly powder, ginger, garlic, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and cinnamon stick to a smooth paste. Keep it aside.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and fry the sliced onion. When onion turns golden in colour transfer the fried onion to a plate.

Step 4

In the same oil add ground smooth paste and saute well. When it is sauteed well, add chopped tomatoes and cook well.

Step 5

Add fried onion, salt, water and stir well. When it boils add fish pieces and Keep the pan covered and cook till the fish is done and the gravy thickens on a low flame.

Step 6

When the gravy is thickened, add sugar and vinegar to this and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Step 7

Tasty Fish Vindaloo is ready.
