Irumban puli achaar recipe

Scientific name of irumban puli is Averrhoa bilimbi. Irumban puli is used to make squash, jam, pickles and also used in curries. The juice of irumban puli is good for those with hyper-tension. It will bring down blood pressure. It is good for those having diabetes. It is rich in vitamin C.

Irumban puli pickle is very tasty and delicious. Try this out at your kitchen. This will be super easy to make!!

Ingredients

  • Bilimbi/ Irumban puli - 2 cups (chopped)
  • Ginger - 1 tsp
  • Garlic - 2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Green chillies - 5 (chopped)
  • Mustard seed - 1 tsp
  • Sesame oil - 3 tsp
  • Vinegar - 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves - a string

Method

Step 1

Wash irumban puli and remove the stems while chopping.

Step 2

Take a bowl and add irumban puli and salt and mix well. Keep aside for half an hour.

Step 3

Heat sesame oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.

Step 4

Now add ginger, garlic, chopped green chillies, curry leaves and saute for 2 minutes.

Step 5

Now add red chilly powder and irumban puli. Mix well.

Step 6

Finally add vinegar and saute for 3 more minutes. Tasty irumban puli pickle is ready to serve.
