Mango Puttu Recipe – മാങ്ങ പുട്ട് – Easy Breakfast Recipe

Puttu is usually prepared with plain roasted rice flour and grated coconut. I have added tasty and yummy mangoes to the puttu to make it more delicious and healthy. You may not need any accompaniments with Mango Puttu Recipe / മാങ്ങ പുട്ട്. 

Mangoes are rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals. Fresh mangoes are a good source of Potassium. Also it decreases the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and provides a healthy complexion and hair.

Ingredients

  • Ripe mango - 1 no
  • Roasted rice flour (puttu podi, പുട്ട് പൊടി) - 2 cups
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Sugar - 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and cut the ripe mango into small cubes. Add some sugar and small amount of coconut to the mangoes and keep it aside.

Step 2

Take roasted rice flour in a bowl. Add some salt. Slowly add water little by little over the rice flour and mix well. Continue this process till the flour becomes wet and smooth. Keep this aside for 5 minutes.

Step 3

For preparing the mango puttu, put a layer of grated coconut into the puttu kutti (puttu maker) followed by the mango mix and rice flour and then again a layer of mango and finally a layer of grated coconut. Like this, layer the Puttu in the steamer.

Step 4

Fill half of the puttu kudam (pot) with water. Allow water to boil in the puttu kudam. The steam has to come out.

Step 5

Keep the steamer (Puttu Kutti) on the pot (Puttu Kudam) and allow to steam for 5 minutes.

Step 6

After 5 minutes, you can see steam escaping from the top of the puttu kutti. This shows the puttu is cooked perfectly. Its time to take out the puttu. Switch off the flame.

Step 7

Take the mango puttu outside by pushing the perforated lid from behind the steamer with a wooden ladle in to a plate.

Step 8

Tasty Mango Puttu is ready.
