Prawn Drumstick Jackfruit seeds Mango Curry recipe

Prawn Drumstick Jackfruit Seeds Mango Curry or Chemmeen Chakkakuru Muringakka Manga Curry is a common curry in Kerala. This is a coconut based tangy curry with the combined flavors of drumsticks and mangoes.

Prawn, Drumsticks (Muringakka) and Jackfruit Seeds (Chakkakuru) is a good combination along with sour mangoes. This curry is excellent with steamed rice.

As with all dishes, ingredients vary little from recipe to recipe, yet altering the proportions create surprising variations in flavor. Raw mango can be easily substituted with kokum for delicious unique taste. Also, try swapping drumstick for plantain to vary.

For vegetarians, this dish can also be made in the same manner without Prawns.

Ingredients

  • Prawns - 150 grams
  • Drumsticks pieces - 5 nos
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Raw mango - 1 medium
  • Green chilly - 5 nos
  • Shallots - 5 nos
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Dry red chilly -2 nos
  • Coconut oil - 4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - 2 cup
  • Jackfruit Seeds – 15
  • Cumin (Jeera) – 1/4 tsp
  • Dry Red Chillies – 4 nos
  • Curry Leaves – few

Method

Step 1

Clean the prawns. Peel off the skin and cut the mangoes into cubes. Peel the outer white skin of jackfruit seeds and slice it. Roughly scrape the drumsticks and cut each drumstick into long pieces.

Step 2

Make a fine paste of coconut, cumin and shallots.

Step 3

In a big pan add the mangoes, prawns, jackfruit seeds, drumsticks, green chilly, ginger, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt and water. Cook till the mangoes, jackfruit seeds and drumsticks are soft and tender.

Step 4

Add the ground paste to the curry along with half cup of water and mix well. Simmer this in a low flame for about 2-3 minutes and switch off the flame.

Step 5

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and when they splutter add curry leaves and dry red chilly and fry.

Step 6

Pour this over the curry and mix well.

Step 7

Tasty chemmeen muringakka jackfruit seeds manga curry is ready.
