Beef Kinnapathiri Recipe

Kinnapathiri is a famous Malabar dish that can be served as a snack or main course. Beef kinnapathiri is a type of kinnapathiri that are prepared using beef fillings. It is also used as an Iftar Dish for Ramadan. Try out this Malabar delicacy at your home.

Beef is an excellent source of proteins, vitamins and minerals. It is a good source of choline, pantothenic acid, iron, potassium and vitamin B2. It helps in red blood cell development, cognitive function, building muscle, maintaining a healthy weight etc. It also helps to prevent iron deficiency.

Ingredients

  • For Making Rice Batter :- Par-Boiled Rice - 1 cup
  • Thick Coconut Milk - 1 cup
  • Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - a few pinches
  • For Making Ground Beef Filling :- Ground Beef - 1/4 kg
  • Onion - 2 nos ( chopped )
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1/4 tbsp
  • Red Chilly Powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
  • Fennel Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
  • Coriander Leaves - 2 tsp ( chopped )
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Coconut Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Soak rice in water for 5 hours. Clean and drain the water completely.

Step 2

In a blender, grind the drained rice with coconut milk to a smooth paste.

Step 3

To the rice batter, add garam masala, ground pepper and salt. Combine it well and keep aside.

Step 4

Heat coconut oil in a pan over a medium heat.

Step 5

Add onion into it and saute till translucent. Then add ginger garlic paste and curry leaves to it and cook till onion turns golden colour.

Step 6

Add the ground beef into it and combine well without any lumps. Cover and cook it for 5 minutes.

Step 7

After the beef is cooked, add chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, fennel powder, garam masala and salt into it and combine well. Stir fry for a few minutes.

Step 8

Cook till the beef mixture gets dry and add ground pepper to it. Finally add coriander leaves and remove the pan from the heat. Let it cool down. Beef filling is ready.

Step 9

Switch on the gas stove and place a steamer on the stove.

Step 10

Take a stainless steel plate, grease the bottom and the sides of the plate with 1 tbsp of ghee. Pour 3 large spoonful of rice batter in the steel plate. Cover the plate with aluminum foil.

Step 11

Place the plate in the steamer and cover the steamer with its lid and steam cook for 4 minutes or until the rice batter layer is cooked well.

Step 12

After 4 minutes, open the lid and remove the plate from the steamer.

Step 13

Spread half of the prepared beef filling over the rice layer and evenly pour rest of the rice batter over it. Again spread remaining half of beef filling on it and drizzle 1 tbsp of ghee over it.

Step 14

Cover the plate with an aluminum foil and steam cook for 15 minutes or until the rice batter on top is cooked well. Switch off the flame and remove the plate from the steamer. Let it cool down.

Step 15

Cover the plate with another plate and flip it over, the beef kinnapathiri will fall onto the plate. Cut it into pieces.

Step 16

Tasty Beef Kinnapathiri is ready.
