Chettinad Pepper Chicken – Spicy Chicken Dish Recipe
Chettinad pepper chicken is a hot and spicy dry chicken recipe from the Chettiar community in Tamil Nadu. The gravy is very peppery and flavourful. It goes well with Plain Rice, Roti etc. Try out this mouth watering Chicken dish at your home.

Ingredients
- Chicken - 1/2 kg
- Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 tsp
- Onion - 2 nos ( chopped lengthwise )
- Tomato - 2 nos ( chopped )
- Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
- Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Cloves - 5 nos
- Cinnamon Stick - 3 nos ( 2 inch length )
- Cardamom - 2 nos
- Bay Leaf - 1 no ( crushed )
- Black Pepper Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Water - 1 cup
- Coconut Oil - 5 tbsp
- Coriander Leaves - 1/2 tbsp ( for garnishing )
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Heat oil in a kadai and add cloves, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom, bay leaf and fry for 2 minutes on medium flame.
Step 2
Add sliced onion into it and saute till transparent. Add ginger garlic paste to it and mix well. Then add chopped tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add red chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder and salt into it and mix well.
Step 4
Then add chicken pieces and water into it and mix well. Cover and cook the chicken for 10 minutes on a low flame.
Step 5
Finally add black pepper powder into it and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes on low flame. Switch off the flame.
Step 6
Tasty Chettinad Pepper Chicken is ready. Garnish with coriander leaves.
