Chicken Pola Recipe

Chicken Pola is one of the super delicious Iftar dish from Malabar. Spicy chicken masala and egg mixture gives authentic taste to this dish. You can serve this as a snack, starter or Nombuthura / Iftar Dish For Ramadan.

Pola is a traditional Malabar dish, which is similar to cake, but made without an oven. It can be sweet or savoury. You can make a wide variety of Pola using eggs, bread, banana, apples, meat etc;. It is a simple snack prepared with chicken and egg. We can prepare it very quickly and with the simple ingredients available at home.

Ingredients

  • Chicken pieces - 250 gm
  • Onion - 2 nos (chopped)
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilies - 2 nos
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Eggs - 4 nos
  • Tomato - 1 no
  • Ghee - 3 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
  • Coconut oil - 3 tbsp
  • water - 50 ml
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and wash chicken well. Heat a pressure cooker and add the chicken pieces along with 1/2 teaspoon chilly powder, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 50 ml of water and salt. Cook for 2 whistle.

Step 2

Once the chicken is done, switch off the flame and let it cool. Shred the chicken and keep aside.

Step 3

Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a frying pan and add chopped onion into it and saute well until onion become light brown.

Step 4

Then add ginger garlic paste and chopped green chilly and chopped tomato into it. Saute well until raw smell goes.

Step 5

Then add pepper powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder to it. Saute for a minute or until the raw smell goes.

Step 6

Then add boiled and shredded chicken into it and saute until the chicken become dry and well mixed with the onion masala.

Step 7

Add garam masala, curry leaves, coriander leaves, salt and mix well. Switch off the flame and keep masala aside.

Step 8

Beat eggs well in a bowl with a spoon. Add chicken masala into it and mix well.

Step 9

Heat a pressure cooker or a non stick pan on a low flame, add 3 tsp of ghee and spread the melted ghee nicely everywhere.

Step 10

Pour the egg and chicken batter into it and close the lid (do not place weight). Keep it on very low flame for 15 minutes. Switch of the flame.

Step 11

Keep this cool to for 5 minutes and transfer to a plate.

Step 12

Yummy Chicken Pola is ready.
