Chicken Stuffed Gift Box Recipe
Chicken Stuffed Gift Box is a traditional Malabar Recipe. It can be served as Iftar snack and it is a good starter recipe too.
Chicken masala wrapped in a dough which is made into a gift box and fried till crispy, perfect snack. The outside layer is crispy with the delicious chicken masala inside. You can use any colour of your choice for the ribbon. Also you can use Beef, Mutton or even veggies for making the filling. It is a tasty and delicious snack.
- Chicken - 500 gm
- Onion - 2 nos ( chopped )
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Green chilly - 4 nos ( chopped )
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves - 1 tsp ( chopped )
- Curry leaves - a few ( chopped )
- Coconut oil - 1 cup
- All purpose flour - 1/2 cup ( 200 gm )
- Wheat flour - 1/2 cup ( 200 gm )
- Water - 100 ml
- Green food colour - a pinch
- Salt to taste
Take a pressure cooker and add chicken with salt and turmeric powder. Once cooked, shred the chicken using a mixer.
Heat 4 tsp of coconut oil in a pan and add chopped onion, salt and cook till translucent.
Add ginger garlic paste and chopped green chillies into it and cook for 3 minutes.
Add pepper powder, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, curry leaves, coriander leaves, salt and saute well.
Add the cooked and shredded chicken into it and mix well. Remove the pan from heat and keep covered. The filling is ready.
In a large bowl, combine the wheat flour, all purpose flour and salt. Add water little by little and knead it to a soft dough. Add 2 tsp of coconut oil over the kneaded dough and combine well. Keep aside for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, make small balls out of the dough.
Add the green colour to 2 balls and knead well till the dough is evenly coloured.
Roll the coloured dough on a wooden board to a thin round shape, dust with flour while rolling to prevent from sticking.
Using a knife, cut it into long strips or ribbons of equal lengths and keep aside.
Roll the other dough balls into medium sized round shapes.
Place 2 tbsp of chicken masala on the center of the dough. Fold both the sides and then the ends, use little water to glue them. It will be like square shaped box. Like this, prepare all the boxes.
Wrap the box with the coloured ribbons vertically and horizontally. Use little water to glue the ribbons.
Heat coconut oil in a pan for frying.
Deep fry chicken gift box in oil till both the sides turn golden in colour. Transfer it to a paper towel.
Tasty Chicken Stuffed Gift Box is ready.
Serve with tomato ketchup.
