Dry Fish Chutney Powder or Unakkameen Chammanthi Podiย is a tasty dish and it is easy to prepare. In this recipe the dry fish is first fried and then grinded.

Coconut is not added to this dish so Dry Fish Chutney Powderย will remain fresh for more than 2 weeks. Here, i have used dry shark for making this dish. You can also make chutney powder with dry prawn also.

Unakkameen Chammanthi Podiย goes extremely well with rice.ย Try out this recipe!

Ingredients

  • Dry fish (dry shark) - 1/4 kg
  • Dry red chillies crushed - 2 tspn
  • Shallots - 5 nos (chopped)
  • Coconut oil - 5 tspn
  • Curry leaves - 2 strings
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp

Method

Step 1

Wash the dry fish thoroughly so that the excess salt will be removed.

Step 2

Cut the dry fish into small pieces and add red chilly powder.

Step 3

Fry the dry fish and grind it in a mixer grinder. Keep it aside.

Step 4

Heat the coconut oil in a pan and add the chopped shallots. When the shallots change it's color, add crushed red chilly, curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes.

Step 5

Add the grinded dry fish and fry for 4 minutes. The delicious dry fish chammanthi is ready to be served with rice.
