Erachi Pathiri (fried bread stuffed with Chicken masala) is a traditional North Kerala Malabar dish. It’s one of the popular iftar snacks in Kozhikode/Malabar area (Northern Kerala).
Authentic erachi pathiri is made with all purpose flour and is deep fried. You can use Mutton, Beef or Chicken for the spicy meat filling.

Ingredients
Combine all purpose flour, salt, oil, lukewarm water and knead well to make a soft dough. Clean and wash the chicken pieces. Boil the chicken with turmeric powder and some salt. Once cooked drain the stock and shred or chop the chicken into small pieces. Heat oil in a pan and add ginger paste, garlic paste, green chilies, onion and sauté for 5 minutes. To this, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, pepper powder, garam masala and coriander powder. When the raw smell of the spices is gone, add the shredded chicken, salt and mix well. The filling is ready. By using the dough, make small sized balls (lemon sized). Roll this balls in the shape of chapatis. Place some filling at the centre of one pathiri and place another rolled out pathiri over it, gently press the edges together. Like this, make all the pathiris. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the stuffed pathiris until it turns golden brown. Flip over and fry the other side too. Erachi Pathiri is ready. Serve hot Erachi Pathiri with a hot cup of tea.
