Fish Masala is a very popular recipe. It is a dry gravy dish which is very easy to prepare and tastes great with rice, chappati, parotta etc. Fish is marinated in a paste of spices and pan fried. Fish are cooked in a tomato based gravy.

Fish is among the healthiest foods on the planet. It is loaded with important nutrients, such as protein and vitamin D. It is also the world’s best source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are incredibly important for your body and brain. It is generally considered to be the best food you can eat for a healthy heart. Elderly people who eat fish or seafood at least once a week may have a lower risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Eating fish can improve your circulation and reduce the risk of thrombosis.

Ingredients

  • King Fish / Neymeen - 6 pieces ( boneless )
  • To marinate : - Red chilly powder - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice - from half lemon
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • For masala : - Onion - 2 nos ( chopped )
  • Tomato - 2 nos ( chopped )
  • Red chilly powder - 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 3/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala - a pinch
  • Fenugreek powder - a pinch
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chillies - 3 nos ( chopped )
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Coconut oil - 50 ml
  • Thick coconut milk - 100 ml
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and wash the fish. Cut it into medium size pieces and drain the water.

Step 2

Take a bowl and add ginger garlic paste, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, lemon juice, salt and mix well.

Step 3

Marinate the cleaned fish pieces with the paste and keep it for 30 minutes.

Step 4

Heat coconut oil in a non stick pan and shallow fry the fish pieces on a low flame. Transfer the fried fish to a plate

Step 5

In the same oil add ginger garlic paste and fry for few minutes on low flame.

Step 6

Add chopped onion, chopped green chilly and saute till the onion become soft.

Step 7

Now add red chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, garam masala, fenugreek powder and saute till the raw smell goes.

Step 8

Add chopped tomatoes, curry leaves, salt and cook till they become soft and mushy.

Step 9

Add thick coconut milk and mix well. When it boils add fried fish and Keep the pan covered and cook till the fish is done and the gravy thickens on a low flame. Switch off the flame.

Step 10

Tasty Fish Masala is ready. Serve hot with steamed rice.
