Puttu is ย a very familiar food of ย Kerala. Putt/steamed rice cake can be made with rice, wheat flour.
This puttu/steamed rice cake is made with ย rice flour and minced meat. This is a very tasty dish and can be easily prepared. Steamed rice flour with spicy meat layer.
Ingredients
- Rice flour - 2 cup
- Grated coconut - 1 cup
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Salt to taste
- Beef - 250 gm(cut in to small pieces)
- Onion - 1 no (chopped)
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water - 1 cup
- Curry leaves - 2 strings
- Coconut oil - 2 tsp
- Coconut shell - 1 halved
Method
Step 1
Take a bowl add rice flour, salt and water. Sprinkle water into the rice flour little by little and mix well until it become wet.
Step 2
Heat oil in a pan add chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt, garam masala, beef, curry leaves and water. Cook for 5 minutes.
Step 3
Then mince the meat in a food processor.
Step 4
Now drill a small hall in the coconut shell. For the first layer of Puttu/steamed rice flour cake add a tablespoon of grated coconut and 1 tsp of minced meat to the shell. Now fill the second layer with 1/2 cup of rice flour mixture. On the top sprinkle some grated coconut.
Step 5
Heat water in a pressure cooker and when the steam starts coming out place the coconut shell on the top of the nozzle of the pressure cooker and keep a napkin as a lid for the shell. Let it steam for 5 - 6 minutes in a medium heat.
Step 6
If the puttu/steamed rice flour cake is cooked well then it will come out of the coconut shell very easily. Meat/Erachi puttu is ready to be served.
