Irani Pola Recipe

Irani Pola is an easy to prepare delicious dish with the richness of chicken. Irani Pola is unique and special with maida mixture layered with shredded chicken which is steam cooked. You can serve this as a snack, starter or Nombuthura / Iftar Dish For Ramadan. It is a simple snack prepared with chicken and egg.

Pola is a traditional Malabar dish, which is similar to cake, but made without an oven. It can be sweet or savoury. You can make a wide variety of Pola using eggs, bread, banana, apples, chicken, fish, meat etc;

Ingredients

  • Boneless chicken - 200 gm
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Chicken masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Onion - 2 nos ( chopped )
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Green chilly - 3 nos ( chopped )
  • Maida - 100 gm
  • Egg - 2 nos
  • Milk - 50 ml
  • Sunflower oil - 50 ml
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Coriander leaves - a few
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Ghee - 3 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and cut the chicken pieces into small pieces.

Step 2

Take a bowl and add chicken pieces with 1 tsp of Kashmir chilly powder, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste, 1 tsp of lemon juice, salt and marinate for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Heat 20 ml of oil and fry the chicken pieces , remove from the pan. Mince the chicken and keep it aside.

Step 4

Into the same oil add in the chopped onion , curry leaves , green chilies , salt, saute until the onion transparent. Add garlic and ginger paste, fry till the raw smell gone.

Step 5

Add kashmeri chilly powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, 1/4 tsp of pepper powder and fry for few seconds. Add fried chicken pieces , coriander leaves,cook for 5 minutes and turn off the heat.

Step 6

Take a blender add maida, 30 ml of sunflower oil, 14 tsp ofpepper powder, milk, salt and eggs. Blend all the ingredients.

Step 7

Heat a non stick pan on a low flame, add 3 tsp of ghee and spread the melted ghee nicely everywhere. Pour half of the maida mixture and close the lid . Cook this maida mixture for 4 minutes.

Step 8

Open the lid, add the chicken masala evenly and pour the remining maida mixture on the top of the chicken masala. Decorate with thinly sliced capsicum, chicken pieces and coriander leaves. Close the lid and cook in a low flame for 15 minutes.

Step 9

After 15 minutes use a toothpick to check the cake. Insert the toothpick in the center. The cake is properly cooked, if the toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Switch of the flame.

Step 10

Keep this cool to for 5 minutes and transfer to a plate.

Step 11

Yummy Irani Pola is ready.
