Kadachakka (Sheema Chakka) is closely related to jackfruit, fig, breadnut and mulberries. Breadfruit has lot of calories. Its pulp has more fibre than in jackfruit. Also it has more vitamin C than jackfruit and banana. From May to the beginning of September, it will be the season of breadfruit in Kerala. Ripe breadfruit has a sweet and sour taste. Mature and unripe breadfruit is preferred to prepare mezhukkupuratti.

Ingredients

  • Kadachakka (Sheema Chakka) - 1 no
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Shallots - 10 nos
  • Crushed red chilly - 5tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Coconut oil - 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Peel, wash and cut kadachakka into small pieces.

Step 2

Heat a cooking pan and add kadachakka pieces, 1 cup of water and salt. Cover and cook for 10 minutes. Switch off the flame and keep it aside.

Step 3

Now crush shallots and dry chilly together.

Step 4

Heat 3 tbsp of coconut oil in a pan and saute the shallot and dry chilly mix along with curry leaves till the raw smell goes.

Step 5

Now add cooked kadachakka to this and mix everything well. Cook for 2 minutes and mix slowly till all the pieces are well coated with the shallot and dry chilly mix.

Step 6

Tasty kadachakka mezhukkupuratti is ready.
