Kozhikodan Cherupayar Curry Recipe / Moong Dal Recipe using Coconut milk

Cherupayar curry (moong dal curry / green gram curry) and puttu is a common Kerala breakfast recipe. This is also a protein rich curry for dinner along with chapati also.
Talking about the nutrition content, as the curry is made of green gram (Cherupayar, ചെറുപയർ or moong dal) which is rich in proteins. This makes the dish good for those who are on low carbohydrate diet. Moreover, Cherupayar is rich in vitamin A, B, C and E and also contains minerals like iron, calcium and potassium.
It is generally considered as a weight loss food, as it is a low fat food, rich is protein and fibre. It also helps to reduce high cholesterol level and also keeps a check on your blood sugar level.
The most important part is the taste of the curry and easiness to make.

Ingredients
Soak moong dal (green gram or cherupayar) overnight and pressure cook the dal. Take some thick coconut milk. Thick coconut milk is made by grinding 1/2 coconut grated and 1 cup of water. Then drain the coconut to separate the milk. Heat a pan and add chopped shallots, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt, cumin Seeds, curry leaves, green chillies and saute till the shallots become translucent. Add moong dal to above shallots mixture and mix well. Add coconut milk to this. Mix well and allow to cook in low flame for 2 minutes. Before it starts to boil turn off the fire. Now your delicious cherupayar curry is ready to serve. Method
