Papaya Payasam Recipe | പപ്പായ പായസം

For this Vishu, I am presenting a different payasam with papaya. We can’t end any function without any sweet dishes. Payasam is kerela’s own dessert which is a favorite sweet dish of kids and elders. There are many varieties of payasam. 

Papaya is a fruit which is available through out the year mostly everywhere. Papayas are good source of fiber, which has been shown to lower high cholesterol levels.  It is said that even the big black seeds of the papaya is also edible, which is often discarded by every one because of its peppery flavor. Here we are using the flesh of the fruit for making payasam.

Ingredients

  • Ripe papaya - 1 cup (chopped)
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Sugar – 1/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1 pinch
  • Raisins - 6 nos
  • Cashew nuts - 5 nos
  • Ghee - 4 tsp

Method

Step 1

Wash and peel off the skin of papaya. Cut the papaya into small pieces. Grind the papaya pieces to paste in a blender .

Step 2

Heat a pan and add 2 tsp of ghee. Add cashew nuts, raisins. Fry it till golden brown and keep aside.

Step 3

In the same pan, add 2 tsp of ghee and the papaya paste and saute it for 5 minutes. Add coconut milk into it and then stir well.

Step 4

Now add sugar and cook it again for 5 minutes until it becomes thick. Now add cardamom powder, roasted cashew nuts, raisins and stir well. Switch off the flame.

Step 5

Tasty Papaya Payasam is ready.
