Stir Fried Papaya
The papaya, is the fruit of the plant Carica papaya, the sole species in the genus Carica of the plant family Caricaceae. Papayas can be used as a food, a cooking aid, and in traditional medicine. The stem and bark may be used in rope production.
Papaya is rich in enzymes called papain and chymopapain which helps with the digestion, particularly it breaks down the proteins from the food we eat into amino acids. Ingredients
- Raw Green Papaya - 250 gm (chopped)
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Dry Red chillies - 5 nos (crushed)
- Shallots - 4 nos (crushed)
- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Coconut oil - 4 tsp
- Curry leaves - 2 strings
- Salt to taste
- Water - 2 cupsa
Method
Step 1
Clean and cut the the papaya into small pieces.
Step 2
Heat a pan add papaya pieces, turmeric powder, salt and water for about 5 minutes till the water is absorbed and the pieces are cooked..
Step 3
Heat coconut oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds. Add the crushed shallots, red chillies and curry leaves. Saute for 2 minutes.
Step 4
Add cooked papaya pieces and mix well and cook for 5 minutes in a low flame and toss the pieces gently allowing the oil to coat all over and the pieces are glossy.
Step 5
The papaya ularthu or stir fried papaya is ready to be served.
