Payyoli Chicken fry is a tasty chicken fry and easy to make. Payyoli is a place situated in the North Malabar coast of Kerala. 

This spicy chicken fry is quite popular. The dish can be served as a starter or as a side dish with rice. This authentic Kerala recipe has very less ingredients.

Now, Chicken fry is a part of the menu of every meal and it is good for the proper health of the body. It helps for the development of bones and muscles. Chicken can be used as a curry, fried etc.

Ingredients

  • Chicken - 500 gm (with bone)
  • Ginger paste - 2 tbsp
  • Kashmiri red chilly - 10nos
  • Turmeric powder - 1tsp
  • Vinegar - 2tsp
  • Green chilly - 4 nos (slits)
  • Meat masala powder - 1tbsp
  • Grated coconut - 5 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Coconut oil - 2 cup
  • Water - 5 tsp
  • Dry red chilly - 2 nos

Method

Step 1

Clean the chicken with water. Cut the chicken in to medium size pieces.

Step 2

Boil kashmiri red chilly in 5 tsp of water for 10 minutes in a low flame. Then grind it into a fine paste. Using kashmiri red chilly powder makes a nice red colour to the chicken fry.

Step 3

Marinate the chicken pieces with 1 tbsp of ginger paste, 1 tbsp of vinegar and salt. Keep aside for 15 mins.

Step 4

Add 3/4 of red chilly paste, 1 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of meat masala powder, 1 tsp ginger paste, 1 tbsp vinegar and mix well. Add this mix to the chicken. Keep aside for 1 hour.

Step 5

To the grated coconut, add 1/4 of the red chilly paste and mix well. Keep aside.

Step 6

Heat coconut oil in a pan, then fry the chicken pieces in a medium flame. Once the chicken pieces are half cooked, add the grated coconut mix, green chilly, dry red chilly and curry leaves to it. Fry until the chicken is properly fried.

Step 7

Remove the chicken from the pan when it is crispy.

Step 8

Tasty Payyoli chicken fry is ready.
