Tomato Curry Recipe / തക്കാളി കറി is a healthy and delicious vegetarian recipe. It is a very easy to make side dish recipe and is a good accompaniment with steamed rice.
The fresh and pulpy tomatoes gives a natural flavor and aroma to the dish. Tomatoes are considered as one of the low-calorie vegetables. It also contain vitamin A and flavonoid anti-oxidants such as ß-carotenes, xanthins and lutein. Fresh tomato is very rich in potassium, calcium and iron.

Ingredients
- Tomatoes - 5 nos
- Green chilly - 5 nos
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Shallots - 4 nos
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
- Dry red chilly - 2 nos
- Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Wash well the tomatoes and cut into medium sized slices.
Step 2
In a pressure cooker, add the tomatoes, green chilly, one sprig of curry leaves and turmeric powder. Cook for 2 whistles with 1/2 cup of water or cook till the tomatoes turn mushy.
Step 3
In a mixer grinder, grind coconut, cumin seeds, shallots into a fine paste.
Step 4
Once the tomatoes are cooked well, add coconut paste and salt. Cook for 3 minutes more. Switch off the flame.
Step 5
Heat a pan and pour 2 tbsp of coconut oil for tempering. Add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds. When mustard seeds start to splutter, add dry red chilly and curry leaves.
Step 6
Pour this over the curry.
Step 7
Tasty Tomato Curry is ready.
