With regard to nutrition of apples, they are full of fibres called pectin. A medium-sized apple contains about 4 grams of fibre. Pectin is classed as a soluble, fermentable and viscous fibre. Apple pectin helps to reduce cholesterol levels by lowering insulin secretion. Apples provide a source of potassium which may promote heart health.
Ingredients
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
- Milk - 1 litre
- Condensed milk - 200 ml
- Sago seeds - 1/2 cup
- Raisins - 10 nos
- Sugar - 5 tbsp
- Ghee - 2 tsp
- Water - 1 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
Method
Step 1
Peel skin of apple, remove seeds and cut it into small pieces.
Step 2
Heat ghee in a pan, add apple, fry and set aside. Cook Sago seed in a separate pan along with water.
Step 3
Boil milk with sugar in thick bottomed pan.
Step 4
When the milk starts thickening add apple, cooked sago seed and cook for 5 minutes. Add condensed milk and mix well.
Step 5
Heat a pan with ghee and roast the raisins. Finally add the roasted raisins and cardamom powder to the apple payasam.
Step 6
The delicious apple payasam is ready to served.
