Aracha Payasam – Vishu Recipe

Aracha Payasam is very simple to make. It is made with soaked rice, jaggery, coconut and milk. The rice is soaked for one hour and grinded coarsely. Jaggery is used to sweeten the payasam.

Ingredients

  • Raw rice (Pachari) - 250 gm
  • Coconut (grated) - €“ 2 cup
  • Jaggery - 500 gm
  • Milk - €“1 litre
  • Cardamom powder - 1 pinch
  • Cashew nuts - 5 nos
  • Raisins - 5 nos
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  • Water - 1 cup

Method

Step 1

Soak the rice for one hour, wash well and grind coarse with grated coconut.

Step 2

Boil the jaggery in a little water and strain to remove impurities.

Step 3

Heat a pan and pour 1 cup of water. Add the grinded rice and coconut and cook on a medium flame.

Step 4

Stir continuously and make sure no lumps are formed. Add the strained jaggery and milk, bring to boil and then remove from fire.

Step 5

Heat 2 tsp ghee in a pan and roast the cashew nuts and raisins. Serve hot.

Step 6

Sprinkle the cardamom powder and and decorate with roasted cashew nuts and raisins.

Step 7

Tasty Aracha Payasam is ready.

Step 8

Serve hot.
