Chakkakuru Cheera Thoran Recipe

Chakkakuru Cheera Thoran is a delicious and nutritious side dish with rice. Thoran or Upperi refers to stir-fry, seasoned with coconut, curry leaves and mustard seeds is a usual preparation in the lunch menu of Kerala.

Jackfruit is a very fleshy and delicious fruit which contains many vitamins and minerals and it also offers numerous health benefits. Jack fruit seeds contain protein in high amounts. Jack fruit seeds are rich in iron and provide the body with sufficient iron. Consuming jack fruit seed is an excellent way to build up your muscles. Jack fruit seeds are high on vitamin A (7), which is the one of the most important vitamins for hair health as it prevents dry and brittle hair. It is also packed with minerals like calcium, zinc, and phosphorous. These seeds are rich sources of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy and strong hair.

Ingredients

  • Jack fruit seeds (chakkakuru) - 20 nos
  • Cheera ( ചീര / spinach) - 300 gm ( chopped )
  • Grated coconut - 200 gm
  • Dried red chilly - 6 nos
  • Shallots - 5 nos
  • Curry leaves - 2 strings
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Coconut oil - 3 tsp
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and cut chakkakuru into medium lengthy pieces. Heat a pan add chakka kuru, salt and 100 ml of water in a medium flame and cook for 10 minutes

Step 2

Clean and chop the cheera into small pieces.

Step 3

Coarsely grind the grated coconut, dry red chilly, shallots with a mixer grinder. Do not add water while grinding.

Step 4

Heat 4 tsp of coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, add the coconut mix into it and mix well. Cook this on a low flame for 3 minutes.

Step 5

Add the chopped cheera and salt into it. Cover it with a lid and cook on a low flame for 3 minutes.

Step 6

Open the lid and add cooked chakkakuru into it and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes till it gets dry. Switch off the flame.

Step 7

Tasty Chakkakuru Cheera Thoran is ready.
