Chicken kondattam recipe | Quick and easy chicken recipe

Chicken kondattam is a quick and easy chicken recipe. It is very popular in Malabar, Kerala. Usually ‘kondattam’ is prepared by using vegetables like bitter guard and lady’s finger by marinating with curd and salt, then dried in sunlight for 4 or 5 days. After that the dried bitter guard or lady’s finger fried with oil called ‘kondattam’.

But this chicken kondattam is entirely different because the chicken pieces fried in batter and sautรฉed with spices.ย This chickenย item goes well with chapati, bread, rice etc.

Ingredients

  • Chicken - 250 gm
  • Red chilly flakes - 2 tbsp
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder - 10 gm
  • Garam masala - 5 gm
  • Shallots - 50 gm (crushed)
  • Coriander powder - 10 gm
  • Turmeric powder - 10 gm
  • Ginger garlic paste - 10 gm
  • Green chilly - 2 nos (sliced)
  • Coconut oil - 50 ml
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean the chicken in water and cut into pieces.

Step 2

Take a pan, mix together 5 gm of ginger garlic paste, kashmiri red chilly powder, salt, lemon juice and turmeric powder. Mix them well and apply the paste on chicken and marinate for an hour.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and fry the chicken and keep it aside.

Step 4

Heat oil in a pan and add crushed shallots and sautรฉ in a low flame.

Step 5

When it turns golden brown, add red chilly flakes, ginger garlic, sliced green chilly and sautรฉ well. Then add garam masala, 5 grams of kashmiri red chilly powder, 5 grams of turmeric powder, 10 grams of coriander powder, and curry leaves. Sautรฉ this mixture well.

Step 6

Add the fried chicken to this mixture and mix properly. Garnish with onion rings.

Step 7

Tasty and spicy Chicken kondattam is ready.
