kozhukkattai is basically steamed stuffed rice dumplings. The white smooth texture of the kozhukkattai is really amazing. Chicken Kozhukattai Recipe is a traditional Kerala recipe. It can be served as iftar snack which will be surely enjoyed by all family members.

Chicken Kozhukattai Recipe – ചിക്കൻ കൊഴുക്കട്ട – Delicious Recipe

We can use different stuffings for kozhukkattai. Here I am using chicken stuffing for kozhukkattai. It is entirely up to your preference. We are using very less amount of oil only for cooking chicken which is stuffed inside the rice dumplings and steamed.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour – 1 cup
  • Water - 1 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • For the filling :- Chicken – 250 gms
  • Onion – 2 nos (chopped)
  • Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – 1 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Green chilies – 2 nos (chopped)
  • Curry leaves – a few (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves – a few sprigs (chopped)
  • Coconut oil - 3 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and wash the chicken pieces. Cook the chicken pieces with turmeric powder and some salt.

Step 2

Once cooked shred the chicken using a mixer.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add ginger garlic paste, green chilies and saute well.

Step 4

Add chopped onion. Cook for 3 minutes.

Step 5

Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, pepper powder, garam masala, coriander powder and mix well.

Step 6

Add the shredded chicken, chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves and salt. Mix well and cook for 3 minutes. The filling is ready.

Step 7

Boil one and a half cup of water with salt. Pour the hot water to the rice flour little by little and mix it with a spoon. Keep it aside till it is warm enough to knead.

Step 8

Knead the dough and make it into a soft ball. Make medium size balls out of the dough. Take one ball and place it in your palm. Press it with the other hand and make it a thin sheet.

Step 9

Starts folding it inwards in such a way that you get a cup shape. Place 2 tsp of the filling inside and cover it and roll it back into a ball. Repeat the process with the rest of the dough and filling.

Step 10

Heat an appa chembu or a steamer. Steam the chicken kozhukatta for 10 minutes on a medium flame. Keep it covered for 5 minutes. Open the steamer after 5 minutes.

Step 11

Tasty Chicken Kozhukattai is ready.
