Puttu is a specialty of Kerala and an authentic breakfast item. They are steamed cylinders of rice flour layered with coconut. There are many varieties of puttu. Here I am featuring how to make this puttu. Kids will really love this recipe. .Puttu made in authentic “Chiratta”(Coconut Shell) ,known as “Chiratta Puttu” has a unique flavour and appearance.
Chocolate helps restore flexibility to arteries while also preventing white blood cells from sticking to the walls of blood vessels. It consumption lowers the risk of suffering a stroke.

Ingredients
- Chocolate ( grated ) - 50 gm
- Puttu podi ( Roasted rice flour ) - 200 gm
- Grated coconut - 100 gm
- Sugar - 10 gm
- Water - 100 ml
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Take roasted rice flour in a bowl and add some salt. Slowly add water little by little over the rice flour and mix well. Continue this process till the flour becomes wet and smooth. Keep this aside for 10 minutes.
Step 2
Add sugar to the grated chocolate and mix well.
Step 3
Take an empty coconut shell, the part which has eyes, scrape off the inside remaining with a spoon, rinse in water. There are three eyes in the coconut, poke the flimsy eye with a spoon to make a hole.
Step 4
Put the small steel plate with holes, inside the chiratta puttu maker mould. Add a tablespoon of grated coconut. Then add 1 tsp of grated chocolate and 4 tbsp of rice flour. Again layer with grated chocolate and puttu powder.
Step 5
Heat water in a pressure cooker and when the steam starts coming out, place the coconut shell on the top of the nozzle of the pressure cooker and keep a napkin as a lid for the shell. Let it steam for 6 minutes on a medium flame. Switch off the flame.
Step 6
If the puttu is cooked well then it will come out of the coconut shell very easily.
Step 7
Tasty Chocolate Puttu is ready.
