Churakka Parippu Curry Recipe

Churakka Parippu Curry Recipe is a typical Kerala style tasty vegetarian curry which goes well with steamed par-boiled rice (Matta Rice).

Bottle gourd is a healthy vegetable that has low fat and cholesterol and helps in reducing weight. The fiber and minerals in bottle gourd supports healthy digestion. It also aids in digestion and treats constipation.Bottle gourd juice can be applied externally for skin care to prevent pimple, acne and dark circle.

Ingredients

  • Bottle Gourd - 1 no
  • Toor Dal - 200 gm
  • Grated Coconut - 100 gm
  • Green Chilli - 5 nos
  • Shallots - 3 nos
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilli - 3 nos
  • Coconut Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves - a few
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and wash Toor Dal with water.

Step 2

Wash and peel the skin of the Churakka, cut in cubes and keep aside.

Step 3

Heat a pressure cooker and add Toor Dal, chopped Churakka, chopped Green Chilli, 100 ml of Water, Turmeric powder and Salt. Close the pressure cooker with weight and cook on high flame for 3 whistles and keep it aside.

Step 4

Make Coconut paste by grinding grated Coconut, 50 ml of water and Shallots.

Step 5

Once the pressure is released from the cooker, open the cooker and add the ground paste. Mix them well with a spoon and boil the mixture for 5 minutes on low flame. Check salt and switch off flame.

Step 6

Heat a pan, add 2 tbsp of coconut oil and splutter Mustard seeds, dry Red Chilli and Curry Leaves.

Step 7

Add the seasoning on top of curry and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Step 8

Tasty and simple Churakka Parippu Curry is ready.
