Emu is a large Australian bird that has very long legs and cannot fly. It is also the second tallest bird in the world.
Emu meat, also known as red meat is filled with protein and iron energy. But it lacks or has less quantity of cholesterol. Hence it is most preferred type of meat. It is about 98% fat free. In fact it is also used to lower the quantity of fat in the body. Emu meat has been proven to have better health benefits than some of the other commonly used types of meat, like mutton, beef or pork.
Emu meat is one of the few red meats that is healthy for the heart. Various international organizations support and promote the use of emu meat, as compared to other red meat and white meat. Emu provides the highest amount of protein, required fat and saturated fat, good cholesterol, required calories, iron, copper, sodium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, folic acid, and vitamins like B 12, B 6.
Emu meat tastes wonderful. Although it tastes like red meat, it is in fact softer, and therefore absorbs spices and other condiments quite quickly. It can be roasted, braised, stir fried and otherwise used in recipes, as we do with beef. I am sharing Emu stir fry recipe with you. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- Emu meat - 500 gm
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1/4 tsp
- Pepper power - 1/4 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Green chilly - 5 nos (chopped)
- Water - 2 cups
- Salt to taste
- Curry leaves - 2 strings
- Coriander leaves - 2 tsp
- Ginger and garlic (chopped) - 3 tsp
- Coconut oil - 7 tsp
Method
Step 1
Cut and clean the Emu meat.
Step 2
Take a pressure cooker add 2 tsp of coconut oil and add ginger garlic paste, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and saute for 3 minutes.
Step 3
Add emu meat, curry leaves, salt and water. Cook this in a low flame for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Take a pan add coconut oil fry the chopped green chillies, chopped ginger garlic and coriander leaves. Then add the emu meat and fry for 5 minutes. After frying add the pepper powder and garam masala powder and mix well.
Step 5
The delicious Emu meat fry is ready to be served.
