Pachadi is a traditional Kerala vegetarian side dish recipe which is very simple to make, yet very tasty and delicious dish. It is served as an accompaniment with rice. Here I am presenting Kerala Style Tomato Pachadi Recipe / തക്കാളി പച്ചടി, which you can serve at your Kerala / Onam sadya.

Kerala Style Tomato Pachadi Recipe – തക്കാളി പച്ചടി – Sadya Recipe

Tomatoes are slightly fried first. Then we add coconut paste and curd. Coconut paste along with curd gives a wonderful aroma and flavor to the dish. As it needs a very few ingredients and time, you can prepare it very fast. Pachadi can be also made with cucumber, pineapple, mangoes, grapes etc.

Ingredients

  • Tomato - 2 nos
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Curd - 1/2 cup
  • Green chilly - 5 nos
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Coconut oil - 4 tbsp
  • Dry red chilly - 3 nos
  • Curry leaves - 1 string
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and cut the tomatoes into small cubes.

Step 2

In a mixer grinder, grind coconut with 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds and green chilly.

Step 3

Heat 2 tbsp of coconut oil in a pan and add chopped tomatoes. Saute for 3 minutes. Add coconut paste, curd and salt to the tomatoes and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Step 4

Heat a pan and pour 2 tbsp of coconut oil and add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds. When mustard seeds start to splutter, add dry red chilly and curry leaves. Pour this over the tomato pachadi.

Step 5

Tasty Tomato Pachadi is ready.
