Kozhi pidi is a traditional dish of kerala. This dish is mainly made during the time of Ramadan. This dish is very tasty. In this dish small rice balls are cooked ย and it is mixed with the chicken curry.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 1 cup
  • Water - 2 cup
  • Fennel seed(perumjeerakam) - 1/2 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Chicken - 500gm(cut in to small pieces)
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Onion - 2 (chopped)
  • Green chillies - 3 nos (chopped)
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Curry leaves - 2 springs
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Coconut oil - 5 tsp
  • Water - 1 cup

Method

Step 1

Heat a pan add 2 cups of water and boil for 2 minutes.

Step 2

Add salt, 2 cups of rice flour and cook for 3 minutes.

Step 3

Press the rice powder and make small balls.

Step 4

Take a pan again boil 1 cup of water. Add the rice balls. Stir countinously.

Step 5

When the ball is half cooked add 1 cup of coconut milk and fennel seeds. Mix well and boil for 2 minutes. If the ball is cooked switch off the flame.The Pidi/Rice dumplings are ready.

Step 6

For making the chicken gravy, heat a pan dry roast 1/4 cup of grated coconut and grind it into a smooth paste.

Step 7

Heat coconut oil in a pan add onion, green chillies,ginger garlic paste and fry for 2 minutes.

Step 8

Then add red chilly powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, garam masala powder and fry 1 minute.

Step 9

Add chicken, salt,curry leaves,coconut paste and 1 cup coconut milk and cook for 8 minutes.Chicken curry is ready.

Step 10

Mix the chicken curry and the Pidi/Rice dumplings well.The Kozhi pidi is ready to be served.
