Kuzhalappam is a crunchy and tasty fried snack. It is a traditional Indian snack item especially in Kerala.

It is prepared by using rice flour and  it is a healthy snack item.

This can serve in special occasions like birthday party, wedding party, festivals like Christmas, Eid, etc.

It can used as a teatime snack or nalumani palaharam.

The preparation for this snack is simple and can ready within minutes. It can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of months.

Ingredients

  • Roasted rice powder - 1 & 1/4 cups
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Shallots (Kunjulli) - 5 nos
  • Garlic - 2 nos
  • Cumin seeds (Jeerakam) - 1/4 tsp
  • Black sesame seeds (Ellu) - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil - 3 cup
  • Water - 1 cup

Method

Step 1

Grind shallots, cumin seeds, garlic, garlic and coconut to a fine paste.

Step 2

Boil 1 cup of water with enough salt in a pan.

Step 3

Take a bowl add the grounded mix, roasted rice flour and black sesame seeds. Mix well.

Step 4

Gradually add enough boiling water to the flour and mix with a spoon. Knead into a smooth dough.

Step 5

Divide the dough into small lemon sized balls. Now roll them between your fore finger to make a cylinder shape (Kuzhal) and seal the ends by pressing them together.

Step 6

Heat coconut oil in a pan and fry till golden brown colour on medium heat.

Step 7

Tasty, crunchy Kuzhalappam is ready.
