Malabar Recipes

Kaipola is a tea time snack with main ingredient as banana. This is an authentic Malabar dish which is often served as an evening snack. This is a snack which can be made easily. This is a sweet dish  and it is a mixture of ripe bananas and eggs.

Kaipola is usually prepared during Ramadan days.

Ingredients

  • Nendrapazham - 3 chopped
  • Eggs - 2 nos
  • Coconut grated -1 cup
  • Ghee - 5 tsp
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Cashew nuts - 10 nos
  • Raisins - 10 nos
  • Cardamom - 2 crushed
  • Vanila essence - 3 drops

Method

Step 1

Heat a pan add 3 tsp ghee and add the chopped nendrapazham to it and saute for 5 minutes.

Step 2

After 5 minutes when nendrapazham turns light brown colour add sugar and saute well.

Step 3

Take a bowl beat 2 eggs and add crushed cardamom, raisins, cashew nuts, grated coconut and vanila essence and mix well.

Step 4

Pour this egg mixture into the cooked nendrapazham mix it well.

Step 5

Heat a non stick pan on a low flame and add 2 tsp of ghee. Now add the nendra pazham mixture into the pan and close with a lid and cook for 8 minutes.

Step 6

After 8 minutes flip it over to a plate and reverse back as it is and cook the other side for another 8 minutes. Tasty Pazham Kalthappam is ready to be served.
