Mullan Meen Mulakittathu is a spicy Kerala style fish curry. Fish curry is a signature item of Kerala. Fish is among the healthiest foods on the planet. It is loaded with many important nutrients such as protein and vitamin D.

Ingredients

  • Mullan Meen / Cod Fish - 10 nos
  • Shallots - 10 nos
  • Green chilly - 3 nos ( chopped )
  • Ginger - 1 small piece ( chopped )
  • Garlic - 3 pods ( chopped )
  • Kashmiri chilly powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Kudampuli / Gambooge - 2 pieces
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Water - 2 cup ( 200 ml )
  • Coconut oil - 5 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean the fish with water.

Step 2

Soak kudampuli in 1 cup of water and set aside.

Step 3

Take a bowl and add turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilly powder and 1 cup of water to make a paste and keep it aside.

Step 4

Heat 4 tbsp of coconut oil in a clay pot or meen chatti. Add fenugreek seeds and when they splutter, add curry leaves, chopped shallots, sliced ginger and garlic into it and saute for 4 minutes on a low flame.

Step 5

Add masala paste into it and saute till oil separates. Add the soaked kudampuli along with water and salt into it and combine well. Cover and cook till it boils.

Step 6

Add cleaned fish into it and cook well on a low flame for 5 minutes.

Step 7

Check salt and add if needed. Pour 1 tbsp of coconut oil to the curry and cover for about 2 minutes.

Step 8

Switch off the flame.

Step 9

Tasty Mullan Meen Mulakittathu is ready.
