Murrukku is a deep fried Indian snack and made from rice flour. Murukku is  a mixture of  rice flour, black gram or Urad Dal  and little spices makes the rice murukku a tasty one. It is made with idiyappam maker.

Rice murukku (അരിമുറുക്ക് ) is one of the popular snack in South India especially in Tamilnadu during the festivals like Diwali and Krishna Janmashtami.

Rice murukku is a savory and crunchy snack can share with the family members and guests.

Ingredients

  • Rice powder - 1 Cup (Use idiyappam rice Powder)
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida (കായം ) - 1/4 tsp
  • Sesame seeds (എള്ള് ) - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 3/4 Cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil - 3 cup
  • Urad dal powder (black gram) - 1/4 cup (roasted)
  • Idiyappam maker with the star hole attachment

Method

Step 1

Take a bowl and mix rice powder, salt, red chilli powder, urad dal powder, asafoetida and sesame seeds and mix well. Add water and make a dough. Make balls of this dough.

Step 2

Fill the dough in the idiyappam maker.Turn the top handle of the idiyappam maker and make a murukku pattern starting from the inner circle.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and pour the dough through idiyappam maker into the oil on a medium heat until light golden colour.

Step 4

Remove and drain excess oil.

Step 5

Crunchy rice murukku is ready.

Step 6

Store in an airtight container.
