Prawns Pepper Fry Recipe / Kerala Fry

Prawns Pepper Fry is a tasty dish enriched with the goodness of prawn and flavors of pepper, garlic other spices. Prawns are marinated and cooked with other ingredients. It is considered to be the signature dish of Kerala. This is a little spicy dish. You can reduce the spiciness if you prefer not much spicy. Adding lemon juice and curry leaves will give a nice aroma and flavor to the dish. It can be served with rice, chapatis.

Prawns are rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are good for our heart. Fatty acids are also helpful in fighting against diseases like Dementia and Alzheimer. They are excellent source of low-fat and protein and are abundant in vitamin D and good source of vitamin B12.

Prawns are marinated and cooked with other ingredients. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked.

Ingredients

  • Prawns - 250 gm ( Cleaned )
  • Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp
  • Onion - 2 nos ( sliced )
  • Green chilly - 3 nos
  • Pepper powder - 3/4 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Coconut oil - 5 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and devein the prawns.

Step 2

Marinate the prawns with chilly powder, turmeric powder, lemon juice and salt, keep aside for 30 minutes

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add marinated prawns and fry for 3 minutes on a low flame. Now remove the fried prawns to a bowl.

Step 4

In the same oil add sliced onions, ginger garlic paste, green chilly, curry leaves and fry until it is golden colour.

Step 5

Add fried prawns, pepper powder, salt and mix well.

Step 6

Cover and cook on a low flame for 10 minutes, stir well in between.

Step 7

Open the lid and cook well until the onions and prawn becomes brown and dry, Switch off the flame.

Step 8

Tasty Prawns Pepper Fry is ready.
