Semiya payasam / Vermicelli kheer is the easiest payasam one can makeĀ especiallyĀ during any festivals and other special occassions. Ā Malayalees celebrate Onam with different delicious payasam/dessert/kheer recipes. Vermicelli/semiya payasam/kheer is one of the easiest among the many payasams made during Onam festival. It so easy to make and tastes awesome.

Vermicelli/semiya payasam/kheer is theĀ tastiest and easiest elegant way to end OnaSadya, the grand feast prepared during Onam festival.

Ingredients

  • Roasted Vermicelli/Semiya - 1/2 cup
  • Milk - 4 cups
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee/Coconut oil - 1 tbspn
  • Cashew nuts broken - 1 tspn
  • Raisins - 2 tspn
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 tspn
  • Water - 1/4 cup

Method

Step 1

Heat ghee and roast Vermicelli/Semiya till golden brown.

Step 2

Now take a thick bottomed pan and add milk along with 1/4 cup water and sugar. Stir well. When the milk gets slightly hot add the roasted Vermicelli/Semiya and stir continuously.

Step 3

Continue stirring until the vermicelli/semiya is cooked till soft. After vermicelli/semiya is cooked boil for few more minutes till the milk thickens slightly.

Step 4

Now add cardamom powder. Mix well. Remove from heat.

Step 5

Heat ghee in a pan and roast cashew nuts and raisins. Garnish the Payasam with roasted cashew nuts and raisins. Yummy vermicelli/semiya payasam/kheer is ready to serve.
