A sweet and sour chutney made with tamarind, jaggery and red chilly. Tamarind chutney (chammanthi) is easy to make and delicious.
Try it for Onam sadhya.
Ingredients
Place tamarind in a bowl and add warm water. Rub with your hands to dissolve tamarind in water as much as possible. Strain into a small pan. Discard the residue. The tamarind paste is ready. In a blender add pearl onion, dry red chilly. Blend it for 2 minutes. Take a bowl and pour tamarind paste, jaggery, the blended pearl onion and red chilly mixture and stir well. Add salt and coconut oil and mix well. Adding coconut oil will give the chutney a good taste. Yummy tamarind chutney is ready to serve. Garnish with green chilly. Serve this chutney with rice.Method
