Thaen Mittai is a traditional sweet recipe of Tamil Nadu. Thaen is honey and Mittai is sweet. But these were not made with honey. They are called so because they are as sweet as honey. This is an easy to make recipe. Your kids would love this..Try this sweet at your home. This thean mittai is made with rice and urad dal mixture and the soaked in sugar syrup. The taste of this candy is so yummy that when we chew this candy, the sugar syrup oozes out and it’s taste like honey, hence got the name Thaen Mittai.

Ingredients
- Idly rice - 1 cup
- Urad Dal / Uzhunnu - 1/4 cup
- Baking powder - 1/4 tsp
- Orange food colour - 2 pinch
- Powdered sugar - 1 tbsp (to coat Thaen Mittai)
- Vegetable oil - 2 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Water - 1/4 cup
Method
Step 1
Soak rice and urad dal in water for 3 hours.
Step 2
After 3 hours rinse well and drain the water.
Step 3
Grind it in a mixture by to a smooth paste.
Step 4
Transfer the batter to a bowl add food colour and baking powder and mix well with a spoon .
Step 5
Take a pan mix sugar and water and melt till sugar dissolves. Boil it until the sugar syrup becomes slightly thick.
Step 6
Heat vegetable oil in a pan. Use your hand or spoon and drop very little batter in the oil. Fry it on both sides for 4 minutes in low flame until crispy.
Step 7
Dip the fried thaen mittai in sugar syrup and soak .them about 5 minutes. Drain them and roll them in powdered sugar.
Step 8
Yummy Thaen Mittai is ready.
