Unakka Mulaku Chammanthi / Red Chilly Chutney

Unakka Mulaku Chammanthi is a hot and spicy yet delicious chutney prepared from dry red chillies.

Unakka Mulaku Chammanthi is one of the kerala’s traditional side dish recipe.

Ingredients

  • Dry red chillies - 10 nos
  • Shallots - 15 nos
  • Tamarind - small piece
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coconut oil - 4 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

In a pan, heat 2 tsp of coconut oil and saute the dried red chillies along with curry leaves till the chillies turns into dark brown and keep it aside.

Step 2

Add shallots and 2 tsp coconut oil to the pan. Saute it well till it becomes golden brown.

Step 3

Grind the roasted red chillies, curry leaves, salt and roasted shallots along with tamarind to a paste form. Do not add any water while grinding.

Step 4

Transfer it to a bowl.

Step 5

Tasty red chilly chammanthi is ready.

Step 6

This spicy mulaku chammanthi goes well with cooked tapioca or cooked rice.
