Urulakizhangu Mezhukkupuratti

Potatoes are delicious in any form. Urulakizhangu Mezhukkupuratti is a common but an all time favourite vegetarian side dish in Kerala. It is a simple, quick and delicious dish that goes well with Rice, Poori etc.

Potato is one of the richest sources of starch, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. They also contain adequate amounts of many essential minerals like Iron, Phosphorous, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium and Copper.

It helps to reduce cholesterol levels, boost heart health, manage Diabetes, prevent Cancer, strengthen the immune system, reduce blood pressure, boost eye health, reduce Insomnia etc.

Ingredients

  • Potato - 2 nos (large)
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilly - 5 nos (crushed)
  • Shallots - 5 nos (crushed)
  • Coconut Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves - 2 strings
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Peel and wash the potatoes. Cut it into small cubes and keep aside.

Step 2

Grind shallots and dry red chilly using a mixer grinder.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves.

Step 4

Add ground shallots and dry red chilly into it and saute until a lovely aroma comes.

Step 5

Lower the flame and add turmeric powder, potato pieces, salt and mix well.

Step 6

Close with a lid and let it cook on low flame for 8 minutes. stir it occasionally.

Step 7

Open the lid and stir-fry for a couple of minutes. Switch off the flame.

Step 8

Tasty Urulakizhangu Mezhukkupuratti is ready.
