Ingredients
- Urad Dal/Uzhunnu - 2 cups
- Onion - 1/4 cup (chopped)
- Ginger - 1 inch piece (chopped)
- Green chillies - 5 (chopped)
- Black Pepper Corns - 1 tbsp
- Curry leaves - A few
- Baking Soda ā 1/4 tsp
- Coconut oil - 3 cup
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Wash and soak urad dal in water for 5 hours.
Step 2
Grind the soaked dal without water and make a smooth thick paste.
Step 3
Add chopped ginger, green chillies, onion, curry leaves, black pepper corns, baking soda, salt and mix well.
Step 4
Heat coconut oil in a pan. Apply cold water on your left hand and put a little batter of the size of a lemon on it. Now with your thump flatten it tightly and make a hole in the center. You can also use plantain leaves to make the vada.
Step 5
Drop the vadas into hot oil and deep fry till golden brown in color. Tasty vada is ready to be served.
Step 6
Serve hot Uzhunnu Vada with chutney or Sambar.
