Battura is a typical Indian fried bread made from all purpose flour or maida. Itย is lightly browned, soft, fluffy bread, which is elastic and chewy. It goes well with any kind of Indian curry and this recipe is very easy to cook.

It can be used as a nalumani palaharam with a cup of hot tea. By serving this food item in any special occasions can surpriseย the guests, friends and family members.

Battura recipe | Fried puffed bread recipe | Easy breakfast recipe

Ingredients

  • Plain flour or maida - 2 cups
  • Semolina - 4 tsp
  • Yeast - 2 tsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Yogurt - 3 tbsp
  • Lukewarm water - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Sunflower oil - 2 tsp
  • Maida - 1/4 cup (for rolling)

Method

Step 1

Take a bowl, dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and let it set for 10 minutes.

Step 2

Take another bowl then add semolina, sugar, salt maida and mix well.

Step 3

Then add oil, yogurt, the yeast water to the flour and knead well into a soft dough. Adjust with more or less water as needed to make soft pliable dough.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a wet cloth and keep the dough aside for 3 hours or until the size is doubled.

Step 5

Knead the dough and divide into 8 equal parts.

Step 6

Dust the work surface with flour and roll the 8 equal parts into a big circle shapes.

Step 7

Heat oil in pan, the pan should little bigger than the bhatura.

Step 8

Once oil gets heated slowly drop the battura into the oil, let it puff like a ball and then turn the other side. Drain the oil and take it out.

Step 9

Tasty battura is ready.
