Beef Korma Recipe

Beef Korma is a traditional dish originated in northern India and Pakistan with roots tracing back all the way to the 16th century. Korma recipes can vary in flavour depending on the spices used. A spicy beef curry prepared with a thick and rich gravy. A perfect side dish for Rice, Pulao, Chapathi and Roti.

Beef protein is highly nutritious and may promote muscle maintenance and growth. Protein is the main nutritional component of meat. Beef contains varying amounts of fat mainly saturated and monounsaturated which contributes substantially to its energy content. Beef is very rich in Zinc, a mineral that is important for body growth and maintenance.

Korma can be made with various spices and ingredients. Some people use coconut milk as the cream component, and the dish is often garnished with nuts and herbs such as cashews and cilantro. Generally ginger, coconut, cumin, chilly and coriander all play an important role in the creation of this dish.

Ingredients

  • Beef - 500 gm
  • Onion - 2 nos
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Green chilly - 3 nos
  • Cinnamon - 1 piece
  • Cloves - 2 nos
  • Cardamom - 2 nos
  • Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Whole black pepper - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
  • Cashew nuts - 10 nos ( soaked in warm water for 10 minutes )
  • Vinegar - 1 tsp
  • Coconut oil - 5 tsp
  • Thick coconut milk - 100 ml
  • Coriander leaves - a few
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean and cut the beef into small pieces.

Step 2

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, black pepper and fennel seeds. Fry for 2 minutes.

Step 3

Add sliced onion into it and saute well for 5 minutes on low flame. Add ginger garlic paste and sliced green chilly and saute for 4 minutes.

Step 4

Add turmeric powder and coriander powder into it and saute for 4 minutes. Switch off the flame and cool it completely. Grind the cooled masala with 50 ml of water to a smooth paste.

Step 5

Grind the soaked cashews to a smooth paste and keep aside.

Step 6

Heat a pressure cooker and add beef, vinegar, ground paste, salt and 100 ml of water. Mix this well and cook for 4 whistle. Switch off the flame.

Step 7

After 10 minutes, open the lid of the cooker and add cashew paste to the cooked beef and cook for 4 minutes.

Step 8

Then add thick coconut milk and mix well. Cook on low flame for 6 minutes. Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Step 9

Delicious Beef Korma is ready.
