Button Idli with Coconut Chutney
Idli is one of the favorite breakfast item in South India. The main ingredients are rice and Urad dal (horse bean). The base for button idli is also same but button idles are made in small specific molds.
Due to the small fascinating shapes kids will love these and enjoy this healthy breakfast. Try to make this idli and give surprises to your kids.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Urad Dal (Uzhunnu Parippu / Black gram)
- 2 cup Idli Rice (Puzhungal Ari / Parboiled rice)
- 2 spoon Rice cooked with parboiled rice
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Wash and soak urad dal and rice in water overnight or for 8 hours.
Step 2
After 8 hours of soaking, grind urad dal, rice and cooked rice with water into a smooth and forthy batter.
Step 3
Keep the batter aside for minimum 8 hours for fermentation.
Step 4
After 8 hours the idli batter is ready to cook.
Step 5
Grease the idli mould very lightly with coconut oil & fill 3/4 of each mould.
Step 6
Steam idly for 10 minutes. Take out from flame and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Then remove the idly from mould to a serving plate.
Step 7
Enjoy with simple coconut chutney.
