Cabbage thoran/ Cabbage stir fry is a common side dish for a kerala meal. Cabbage thoran/ Cabbage stir fry is a dry delicious side dish with cabbage, coconut, green chilly etc. Cabbage thoran is a must in Kerala sadhya, grand festival feast of Kerala, South India.
Cabbage is a green leafy green biennial. Scientific name of cabbage is Brassica oleracea or variants. Cabbage is s good source of beta-carotene, vitamin C and fiber. It is a cruciferous vegetable.
Ingredients
- Cabbage shredded - 250 gm
- Grated coconut - 1 cup
- Cumin seed - 1/4 tsp
- Green chilies - 5 nos
- Shallots - 4 nos
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Mustard seed - 1/4 tsp
- Coconut oil - 4 tsp
- Curry leaves - 2 strig
Method
Step 1
Grind together coconut, green chilies, cumin seed and shallots in a mixture grinder.
Step 2
Heat coconut oil in a non stick pan and splultter mustard seeds and curry leaves. Saute for a minute.
Step 3
Add coconut mixture and cook for 3 minutes.
Step 4
Now add cabbage, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.
Step 5
Cover the pan, cook for 3 minutes in low flame. Stir occasionally. After 5 minutes remove the lid and stir fry for another 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Serve hot.
