Chakkakuru Payasam | Jackfruit Seeds Paayasam

Chakkakuru Payasam / Jackfruit Seeds Payasam is a delicious payasam using the seeds of the ripe Jackfruit with dal or parippu. While eating the sweet yummy jackfruit, we throw away the seeds without even realizing its importance. Jackfruit seeds are rich in protein, nutrients, vitamins etc.

Chakkakuru Parippu Payasam can be prepare within minutes. In Southern parts of India people use Jackfruit and its seeds for preparing different varieties of food items.
Let’s try this different Paayasam for the Onam.

Ingredients

  • Jack Fruit seed peeled & cut into small pieces - 1 cup
  • Dal ( Parippu ) - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 2 pinch
  • Sugar to taste
  • Water - 3 cup
  • Fresh coconut milk - 2 glass
  • Ghee - 3 tbsp
  • Cashew nuts - 10 nos
  • Dried grapes - 10 nos
  • Cardamom powder - 4 pinch

Method

Step 1

Add chakkakuru (jack fruit seeds), Parippu (Dal), water and salt in a pressure cooker and cook for 10 minutes or till 2 whistle done by pressure cooker.

Step 2

Switch off the flame and wait for 5 minutes to open the cooker so that the pressure inside the cooker cools down.

Step 3

For making coconut milk: Grind shredded coconut in a blender by adding 2 glass of water for 2 minutes. Then strain (filter) this mixture using a fine-mesh strainer (അരിപ്പ) to get coconut milk which is required for Payasam.

Step 4

Open the pressure cooker and mash and mix cooked Chakkakuru & Parippu together to make it a creamy form.

Step 5

Switch on the flame. Add coconut milk and sugar to this mixture and mix it well for around 5 minutes.

Step 6

Switch off the flame

Step 7

For garnishing: Heat ghee and fry cashew nuts and dried grapes.

Step 8

Garnish Chakkakkuru Parippu Payasam with fried cashew nuts and dried grapes followed by cardamom powder.

Step 9

Now the Chakkakkuru Parippu Payasam is ready to serve. Enjoy!
