In God’s Own Country, the spicy prawn roast, also known as chemmeen roast is a delectable seafood dish with the ideal balance of flavors, and spices for fans of prawns. This meal is a must-have with an unforgettably impressive “wow” factor.

Keralan seafood dishes are traditionally prepared in earthen or mud pots which improves the flavor but for this simple prawn roast dish, a non-stick pan and kadhai also work.

Kerala brown rice, white rice, appam, kappa, Kerala parotta, and chapathi are all delicious with prawn roast. Dal, Alleppey fish curry, and ginger pickles made in Kerala make excellent sides.

Ingredients

  • ചെമ്മീൻ 1/2kg
  • Oil - 4tspn
  • Onion -2
  • Tomato - 1
  • Chilli powder - 2tspn
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2tspn
  • Salt
  • Curryleaves
  • Ginger - 1 piece
  • Garlic - 10 pieces

Method

Step 1

Marinate the prawns with 1/4tspn of turmeric powder, 1tspn of Chilli powder, and 1/2tspn of salt. Keep it aside for 30 minutes

Step 2

Take a deep pan and add Coconut Oil, a pinch of perinjeerakam (fennel seeds) and small coconut pieces. Wait until its color changes.

Step 3

Add the chopped Onions, Garlic, ginger, and curry leave into it. Saute for some time.

Step 4

Add Tomato, 1tspn Chilli powder, 1/4tspn of turmeric powder.

Step 5

Add prawns to the pan and saute until the water from it dries up.

Step 6

Add 4 green chilli and Spread 1 tspn oil on top of it.

Step 7

Creamy Prawn fry is ready to serve.
