Falafel recipe | Simple and easy snack recipe.

Falafel is an Arabic food item. It is a tasty snack which is made into ball shape with chick peas as the main ingredient and deeply fried in oil.

This snack is a traditional Middle East food and now it is very popular among the vegetarians in America and Europe.

It is a healthy vegetarian snack and rich in protein, complex carbohydrates and fibre. Chickpeas are also low in fat and salt. The other nutrients are calcium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B etc.

To reduce the cholesterol content while frying, by brushing some oil and grill.

It can be used as an evening snack or nalumani palaharam. The preparation is very easy with easily available ingredients.

Falafel recipe | Simple and easy snack recipe

Ingredients

  • Canned chickpeas (white chickpeas boiled) - 1 cup
  • Large onion, chopped - 1 nos
  • Cloves of garlic, chopped - 2 nos
  • Fresh parsley, chopped - 1 cup
  • Coriander powder - 2 tbsp
  • Cumin powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder (Optional) - 1/2 tsp
  • All purpose flour - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper powder - few
  • Oil for frying

Method

Step 1

Drain the canned chickpeas and mix chickpeas, garlic, onion, coriander, cumin powder, parsley, turmeric powder, salt and pepper (to taste) in a food processor.

Step 2

Using a blender, blend the above mentioned ingredients together. The result should be a thick paste.

Step 3

Remove the mixture to a bowl and add flour. Mix well with hands.

Step 4

Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a ping pong ball. Slightly flatten.

Step 5

Deep fry in oil until it turns to golden brown (5 to 7 minutes). Now the falafel is ready.

Step 6

Serve hot falafel with Mutabal (Arabic dip).
