Ingredients
- Broken wheat (gothambu) - 2 cup
- Jaggery - 50 gm
- Water - 5 cup
- Medium thick coconut milk - 3 cup
- Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
- Ghee - 4 tsp
- Coconut pieces - 1/2 cup
- Cashewnut - 25 gm
- Raisins - 25 gm
- Cardamom powder - A small pinch
Method
Step 1
Clean the broken wheat in water and drain it. Keep aside.
Step 2
Melt the jaggery with 1/2 cup of water and strain it.
Step 3
Pressure cook the cleaned broken wheat with 5 cup of water in a high flame till 4 whistles.
Step 4
Add the jaggery into the cooked broken wheat and cook for 5 minutes.
Step 5
Now add medium coconut milk into it and mix well and boil for 5 more minutes or cook till when it attains a thick consistency.
Step 6
Now add the thick coconut milk and cook for another 5 minutes in a low flame.
Step 7
Then add cardamom powder and remove from fire.
Step 8
Heat 4 tsp of ghee in a pan fry the coconut pieces first. When it starts changing colour, add cashew nuts and raisins and fry it. Garnish the payasam with fried coconut pieces, cashew nuts and raisins. Yummy broken wheat payasam is ready!
