Idiyappam Recipe

Idiyappam is a common breakfast dish in south India, especially Ā in Kerala and Tamilnadu. It is made using steam cooked rice flour and it is easy for digestion.

Everybody thinks making Idiyapam is aĀ tediousĀ process, but that’s not true. Ā Once we learn it, a lot of variations of theĀ IdiyappamĀ cab be made in less time. It is a quick, healthy and easy recipe and too good for kids as it Ā is made out of rice flour.

Idiyappam with egg roast is aĀ superbĀ combination šŸ™‚

Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 2 cups
  • Boiling water - 2 1/4 cups
  • Coconut oil - 1ā„2 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 1ā„2 Cup

Method

Step 1

Boil water with salt.

Step 2

Pour the boiling water into the rice flour and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. stirring continuously.

Step 3

Knead well until the dough becomes soft.

Step 4

Grease the idly moulds with coconut oil. Sprinkle grated coconut on these moulds.Take small portions of dough and press each portion through Idiyappam mould into greased idly moulds.

Step 5

Heat 3 cups of water in a steamer. Once the water starts boiling in the steamer, place the idlymoulds and steam for 9 minutes on medium flame.

Step 6

Keep the steamer closed for two minutes.

Step 7

Tasty Idiyappam is ready.

Step 8

Serve warm with sweetened coconut milk,stew,chicken or egg curry.
